Frequently Asked Team Staff Questions

  • Step 1- create a coach.ca account on the Coach Locker and receive an NCCP number

    Step 2- complete an online application for the appropriate role (Managers & Trainers do not need to complete applications)

    Step 3- register in RAMP as potential Team Staff

    Step 4- complete Safe Sport e-module (always free)

    Step 5- complete Coach Initiation in Sport e-module (minimal fee not reimbursed by Bow View, however historically free for one week in September during National Coaches Week); Managers & Trainers do not need to complete this e-module

    Step 6- complete the steps to have a valid Police Check on file with Bow View

    Step 7- complete all other requirements on the Team Staff checklist that correspond with your role

    If you have previously been a Team Staff member follow steps below.

    Step 1- complete an online application for the following roles: Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Junior Coach and On Ice Assistant (Managers & Trainers do not need to complete an application)

    Step 2- register in RAMP as potential Team Staff

    Step 3- ensure you have a valid Police Check on file with Bow View (police checks are valid for 3 seasons from the date they were first completed); Managers & Junior Coaches do not require police checks

    Step 4- complete all other requirements on the Team Staff checklist that correspond with your role

    Please Note- Coach requirements may change with an age division/tier change, please ensure you are familiar with and have completed all requirements each season.

  • Any ringette athlete between 14 and 17, at the start of the season, (14 by December 15, can join mid season), may apply to be a Junior Coach. Junior Coaches are permitted on a roster in any age division below their own.

    Bow View generally tries to spread Junior Coaches among as many teams as possible.

    Junior Coaches never replace a mandatory, fully certified female coach who must be 18 years of age.

    Step 6- the Junior Coach Coordinator will contact you via email to match you with a team

  • If you are a City of Calgary resident we can issue you a Police Check voucher for a free Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check application through the Calgary Police Service.

    If you reside outside the City of Calgary you can visit your local RCMP detachment for a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. Please email a scan to admin@bowviewringette.com when complete.

  • Bow View reimburses for CSI, CI, CI Evaluation & MED (the $30 version only) offered through Ringette Alberta to a maximum of 3 coaches/team/season. Coaches will only be reimbursed for the courses required for the age division and tier they are currently on the team roster for. It is the responsibility of each Coach to ensure they take the correct courses.

    Reimbursement Instructions

    Coach Initiation in Sport e-module is historically free for one week a year during National Coaches Week (typically 3rd week of September). Other online courses may be discounted or free during National Coaches Week. Non-mandatory online courses contribute to your professional points.

  • CSI and CI courses are sometimes available in the summer however most courses are only available in the fall. All courses are through Ringette Alberta, details on their website.

    Coaches seeking the CI course can complete their online course work immediately (it can take a number of hours) which will enable them to register for a CI clinic as soon as the dates and times are available. Coaches seeking CI that have not completed their online work will not be able to register for clinics until the online work is complete.

Did You Know?

All on ice Team Staff are required to wear certified helmets during practice. This includes all divisions. Chin Straps MUST be secured! Coaches set an example for all players.

All on ice Team Staff must be members of Ringette Alberta (registered players, parents and registered coaches). This ensures all participants are covered by insurance.

Due to health and safety risks, athletes gloves must stay on at all times while on the ice.
